sketchbook work

form- let me grasp you! displaying weight and movement on the page is a thing that i've tried to practise above. with the exception of parrot wings i think i'm pleased with the results. character design is something i need to work on - most faces i've drawn in the past look the same. note the killer calfs on "PTHHABLEH". inspiring.

Life Drawing

i really don't want to jinx this, but i think i'm getting better.   heads are becoming the right size, bottoms are becoming peachier and colour experimentation is becoming fun. on the left i used blue and white chalk, i love this because it looks so dainty. ignore how squished up the top face is - level with me here - it was an awkward angle.

Eden Project Trip

when i first arrived at the Eden Project, i, like everyone else, started drawing things. my mistake was that i was trying to draw things as i saw them (quite out of character). it took a bit of time for me to realise i could stylise the crazy plants i was seeing, soon the comfort zone was found and in this case the results were pretty funky. (the one on the right is my favourite)

what's your secret

My new essay writing shoes pulled it out the bag this year. They even made it into a fashion photographers photoshoot. So proud.

sketchbook work continues

life drawing

i like the way i drew the life model's legs here.. potentially showing progress in getting to grips with emphasised yet anatomically correct body parts.

they say no day is complete without an existential crisis

so what's a gal to do when she's watched too much Rick and Morty and begins subconsciously applying that style to her weekly drawing assignments? are her dreams of originality dead? should they be? as an animator am i to fall into the corporate abyss of churning out cartoons that all look the same? one side of me says yes, do it amy. if you want any hope of getting a job as an animator one day then goddammit, conform.  but then hooold up there sonny jim laddy boy, style is a thing that's constantly changing based on influence and interest, so.. surely it's totally fine that i'm having a generic cartooning phase.. expanding my knowledge of animations and general artistic creations can only aid the process of singling out a style i fit comfortably into, right?  oh god. i'm going to put the kettle on.

one two tree

a look at trees, identifying their cylinder-like branch structures and applying them dynamically to create a sense of dimension and form. i've always struggled to draw things that look real.. trees included. i suppose i've fallen into the trap of characterising trees in the past to match the characters i use in animations and drawings as they tend to be pretty cartoony. this exercise hasn't cured that, but it definitely made me more aware of the spangly, rotund nature of big broccoli.

Life drawing from today. Lets not talk about the pug.

past projects

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkiXVPa_0HA This is an animation I lost my sanity over making earlier in this year (2015). As the only person specialising in animation in the whole college, I was left almost directionless with little hope of ever passing the course. That was until I discovered Doom bar ale, without which this project would not be digitally sat before you today. Nights spent sleeping in the animation box surrounded by a hundred cut-outs of David Bowie's ever-changing head almost seem worth it. Alas, this goes out to all the Doom bar in the world, thank you.
